Party Time

We celebrated Lucas' Birthday a few weeks after his actual Birthday. Caleb's parents were going to fly out for the event, so we found a weekend that would work for everyone. I have to say I went a little overboard on the party planning. It was so much fun though! We invited mostly family. All of Caleb's cousins in the area came, my parents came up, also Skye and Aaron and their kids, my friend Mindy and her family stopped by for a while, and my sister in law Julie and her kids showed up later, but I'm glad they made it!

The party actually almost got cancelled. Two nights prior Lucas woke up crying...which is normal. Caleb went to get him, and I was about to nurse him but he refused...which was odd. I felt him and he was wet up on his shoulder. Then I smelled throw up. I passed him to Caleb and went and checked in his crib. Yep...real throw up. So I changed the sheets, and him. He came in our bed for a while, and then went back to sleep quite easily. I called into work the next morning and told them I wouldn't be in. He seemed ok the next morning, so I tried to feed him some breakfast. About half an hour later it was back up, mostly all over me. He threw up a few more times that day, once into a basket of clean laundry! I was already doing laundry all day...so back into the wash it went. Better that then on the carpet I guess. I felt so bad for the poor little guy. The next day was the party and I was debating just calling it off. I decided to just see how he was the next morning, surely he would be better by then.

Caleb's parents flew in that day, and we went for dinner at Nick's. We fed Lucas some of our meal, after we put him to bed it was back up. :( More laundry. He went back to sleep and we all decorated cup cakes.

He was fine all night, so in the morning I thought we would be good to go! I went to the church with Caleb's parents to decorate and get ready. Caleb had Lucas duty. So far everything was great. Caleb showed up a couple hours later, and came in looking grim. Lucas had thrown up in the van on the way there. He then threw up in the church kitchen. So sad!! Caleb went home to get a change of clothes, and my Mom and Caleb's Mom helped clean up the mess. Thank you! At that point, the party had to go on. I felt awful for Lucas, but he was such a trooper and barely complained. He was excited to see everyone, and loved crawling around and playing in the gym with all the kids.

Get ready for a picture overload. :)

Here are the centre pieces. Each table had different candy, and a lot of it got eaten! Better than me taking it home.
  Kids table
Party hats! These we so fun to make.

Caleb's artistic work.

Lucas looks so sick in some of these pictures. Make me so sad! He didn't eat anything at his own party.

Not happy with his hat.

For lunch we had a slider bar. Caleb worked hard and made a ton of burgers! We had a lot of different toppings to put on them. We found afterwards that people were pretty tame with their toppings. :)
Opening gifts

Cupcakes!

Lucas got the exact same gift from my parents and Caleb's parents. Great minds think alike! :)

We had such a fun day. Thank you to everyone for coming and celebrating with us! We really appreciated it, especially to those who traveled to be there. Until next year!

One Year

Lucas turned one year old on November 1st. I laid him down in his crib on the 31st with a heavy heart. I kissed him good night, put him in his crib, closed his door knowing that in the morning I would have a one year old. I shed a few tears, but also felt some excitement at the upcoming year in Lucas' life. The first year of his little life has gone by so quickly. It has been challenging, a huge adjustment, but also probably the best and most rewarding year of my life. It's hard to believe that he hasn't been with us forever. He is such a good easy going little guy. Even when he was a baby he would only ever cry if he was hungry or tired. He has such a good attitude and just rolls with the punches even when he's sick or teething. He is sweet and so much fun. He loves people, especially other babies and kids, and warms up to other adults very quickly. He is busy busy and into everything. He has to explore every nook and cranny anywhere he goes, which keeps both Caleb and I on our toes. I feel so grateful to be able to call him mine.
To start off his birthday we took him to a new play place by our house called Tommy K Play. It was nice and clean as it was brand new, and he loved it. They had a toddler area for him to play in. We also took him into the bigger kid area...I went in and lasted for about a minute because I was way too clausterphobic in there! Caleb was a good Dad and played with him in it.

After the play place we went home for a nap and dinner. We were excited to give Lucas his birthday cupcake afterwards. He  hadn't really had any sugar up to this point, so I was excited to see how he would react. Also a little weirded out that because he turned one I was supposed to load him up on sugar?? haha.
He loved having us sing Happy Birthday to him, but he wasn't into the cupcake at all. He just played with it for a while. I don't think he liked the feeling of the icing. He eventally ended up getting some icing in his mouth, and he didn't look overly impressed by it. I ripped off a piece of cupcake and put it in his mouth so he knew what to do with it...again he didn't really care. Which was fine by me. :)

Then he got to open presents from Mom and Dad. While I was in Montana I bought him a little school bus, and an Alphabet toy that spins. He LOVES the bus. It was a good purchase. (Thanks Ashley for talking me out of the other ridiculously expensive toy I was thinking of buying) He likes taking the people out of the bus and putting them back in. So fun to watch.

Lucas you are so special to us. I can't describe how much I love you and love being your Mother. You are so fun, happy, and sweet. I hope you always stay that way. This past year has flown by, and although it's sad, it's also so exciting to see you develop and grow and learn. You make my life so much fun. I love you my little Lucas Lee.

Snow Day

Winter had hit Calgary in full force in November. One Saturday afternoon Caleb and I thought it was a great idea to get Lucas bundled up and introduce him to the snow.
Well Lucas didn't think it was such a great idea. He was instantly grumpy. We took him to the park and Caleb put him down so he could hold on to a step and stand in the snow. His mitt fell off, he touched the snow, started crying, faceplanted in it, and the following pictures accurately depict his feelings on the matter.

Poor guy did not have a very good time! Here's hoping I can get up the nerve to make another stab at it sometime this winter. I don't blame him...I am not a fan of winter either.
Home, toasty warm, modelling Mom's headband. :)
